Patio Bar Set
A Patio Bar Set is the perfect addition to an outdoor entertainment area. For those of you who enjoy having friends around for a few drinks, on those warm summers’ evenings, as well as just being able to sit outside having easy access to your drinks, an outdoor patio bar is extremely convenient.
It’s important not to have too much clutter in the entertainment area on the patio so choose an outdoor patio bar that will be able to store as much as possible at the same time as being compact, stylish and durable. It might be a good idea to draw out (with chalk) where you want to put the bar and patio chairs to see how much room it will take up. Measure the dimensions and then go shopping from there.
What type of outdoor bar you will get depends largely on your weather conditions. If you live in a very humid area, then a wooden outdoor bar would not go down very well because they will get moldy, rot and deteriorate very quickly. Take into consideration the whole year weather conditions. Harsh weather conditions like strong sunshine, persistent wind and rain or even snow in winter can bring a lot of wear and tear to your patio furniture.
Rust might also be a problem. A cast aluminum patio set would be the best option in this case, and is very resistant to rust. Wrought iron is also very resistant to the elements although it might need to be maintained with a coat of paint from time to time.
Another option would be to get a plastic wooden bar set. This material is made from recycled plastic but made to look rustic and a lot like wood. The plastic furniture today is a lot stronger than it used to be and is becoming a popular option for homeowners. You still get the feel of having outdoor wooden furniture but do not have the problems of rotting or rust. They are also easy to clean and maintain.
Basically look out for all weather patio furniture if weather is a big factor in choosing your patio furniture.
Remember that you might also need to invest in some sort of outdoor furniture cover to protect the bar area and accessories, but then again that also depends on the weather and how well protected the area is. Remember to store away any cushions or umbrellas when you are not using the area.
When we first bought a 5 seater wooden bar set for our patio we neglected to seal it. We were amazed at how quickly the patio chairs and table deteriorated. Between the elements of strong sunshine, rain and humidity, we had to throw away the now old looking and broken furniture. In retrospect we should have sealed the furniture when we first brought it home. Had we done that, the patio set might have lasted a good few years.
Since that time we did buy another plastic bar with patio bar stools and this time the outdoor furniture has lasted. At first we bought just the bar and then each month added another bar stool. What is nice about the bar area is that there is storage space so we can keep all the glasses and some of the drinks and bar accessories outside for easy access when our friends pop over.
A lot of friends have commented on the comfort, simplicity and convenience of our outdoor patio bar set.
In winter we are never outside so we bought a cover that fits snugly over the bar. The chairs are just stacked and put away in the outdoor storage shed. Soon it will be spring, and all I have to do is wipe the dust off everything and it will be good to go.
Because we purchased a very neutral brownish beige color it’s been easy to decorate and make the patio furniture that much more colorful. Cushions and matching accessories have turned our outdoor patio into a comfortable and “easy to relax” in entertainment area.
