Wet Bar Cabinets

Wet bar cabinets will make your life a whole lot easier if you often have friends over for drinks, and use the home bar often. The addition of the wet bar sink with running water, to wash up glasses and mess is such a practical idea. No longer will it take you a lot of effort to organize a lime, lemon and soda with extra ice, or a whiskey and water, but you can do it all from the convenience of one location.

The home wet bar really does make life easier – you can stand in one place and have all the necessities within arm’s reach.

People often have the misconception that a wet bar should be in the basement; however this is due to the fact that a lot of people entertain in this area. You need to decide for yourself where you spend most of your time entertaining. If in the summer you are on the patio, then that is where your wet bar should be. If you entertain in your lounge, then you can have it just off the living area, tucked away in the side, remembering to keep space for bar stools too.

And, don’t limit yourself to a set style of bar counter. It’s up to you and you can go beyond the popular L shaped bar style. Maybe you prefer oval – it’s all up to your tastes and the organizational space of your room.

The counter should be a good height of at least 42″ so that guests can stand around the bar as many people do. Also your working area should be at least 36″ tall and 24″ deep. Put a few swivel style bar stools near the counter and you will have very comfortable guests. Don’t conform to the regular bar style with flimsy bar stools – look for something more elegant with a back so that it’s more comfortable for your guests to site on.

Once again think of the type of entertaining you do. If you are often serving drinks to a small group of friends then it’s most likely that you will be talking to them at the same time. This means that you will want your glasses and drinks under the counter in the wet bar cabinet and not behind you. Some people prefer to display their glasses and drinks in shelves or glass cabinets behind the bar, on the wall, so they use the wet bar more as a counter top on which to serve the drinks, more than an actual storage place.

For the shelving inside the cabinets, consider using glass instead of wood. Not only does this look a lot classier, but it makes for easier maintenance. It’s quick and easy to wipe down. If the wet bar is located outside and you need to clean up the bar, then you can actually spray it down with a hose.

Over time you can add accessories to your wet bar area that will make it even more convenient to use. Things like cork screws, bottle openers, coasters, ice machines, water coolers, ice buckets, cocktail shakers and shot glasses will help you be a more efficient bar man!

The sky really is the limit. Look into mini bar refrigerators, wine coolers and even a wine refrigerator – think about these things in advance of installing your wet bar cabinets, so that you can make room for them.
